Karen Hurley has over 20 plus years experience working with individuals to achieve their goals whether the goals are to get up and down off of the floor independently or to return to the tennis court or complete an Ironman triathalon, she can help you achieve your goals.
Master Science in Physical Therapyist – Level 1 Autism Fitness Certified Professional, CrossFit Level 1 Certified, Kids CrossFit Certificate, Adaptive and Inclusive Fitness Instructor. As a former Division 1 Gymnast, Karen understands the importance of staying healthy with injury prevention as well as rehabilitation to compete at her highest level.
Karen received her Bachelor’s in Educational Studies from Brown University in 1993. While she was at Brown University, she was a 4 year varsity athlete and Captain of the Women’s Gymnastics team. She then used her athletic background to go attend Boston University where she received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. She began her physical therapy career at Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at NYU. She later worked in a sports orthopedic and water therapy clinic, Riverside Early intervention, Skilled Nursing Facilities and has spent the last 8 years as the District wide physical therapist for a local school district.
In her former position, she was head of the Unified District program where she led inclusive opportunities in the school and community including the Race to Embrace, a 5 K walk, run and roll event for individuals of all abilities and disabilities as well as an Inclusive Community Day. She was able to co-create and teach a high school Unified Wellness class that she loved working with the students to learn and implement the 5 Factors of Health into their lives including recover, eat, connect, think and move. She helped to discuss simple, implementable strategies to lead to a healthier life. She currently is a guide for Achilles International which is an inclusive running group. She also is a Kids CrossFit trainer and CrossFit New England in Natick, MA.
Her love is creating individualized programs for all individuals of all abilities, all learning and communication styles. She is not only able to create programs utilizing strength and conditioning principles but also incorporating physical therapy concepts. Karen’s motto is “Let’s start training today for where you want to get to tomorrow!” Karen also runs Inclusive and Adaptive and Includsive CrossFit Classes as well as individual and small group physical therapy and functional fitness sessions.
Karen has 3 amazing kids ages 20, 17 and 15. She enjoys playing tennis, pickle ball, working out and Sunday dinners with her family. They also have a Russian tortoise, Bearded Dragon, and 3 chickens.
Emily Malkin, DPT, has been a practicing Doctor of Physical Therapy for over 10 years and has extensive experience in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. She has numerous fitness certifications including being a CrossFit L1 trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Her athletic background includes collegiate basketball and elite level rugby, and she currently enjoys training for CrossFit and Powerlifting. She enjoys coaching athletes of all ages and abilities and is particularly passionate about working with the Special Olympics powerlifting team.
Lindsey Rainwater is joining the team as Coach of the Sunday programs. She works as a physical therapist at the Cotting School, a school for students with all disabilities so she brings a tremendous amount of experience, knowledge and enthusiasm. She worked in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital for 3 years and a pediatric residential school in NY for 5 years. She is an avid CrossFitter and enjoys skiing, being outside and playing with her dog, Coc
Kenzie Jorgense is a senior at UMASS Boston majoring in Exercise Science with a minor in psychology. She loves working with kids and have experience working and volunteering in elementary and middle schools. She is on the track and field team at UMASS Boston and have a lot of fun doing that.
Rebecca Cremin is joining the team as an assistant for the Saturday morning classes. Rebecca recently graduated from UMASS Boston with a bachelors in Exercise Science. She was interning at Aim last spring and summer as part of her academic requirements.She brings with her over 3 years of coaching kids soccer. In her free time she can be found going on hikes with her dog, playing sports and hanging with family and friends. Recently she has started learning how to play tennis.
Jeff Winnick is on the business management side and as well as doing some coaching from time to time. Jeff is a public insurance adjuster by trade but his love and passion for CrossFit and physical wellness which aligns perfectly with our mission. Although Jeff will mostly be behind the scene we hope his efforts will shine through in the way of providing the best and most effective environment for your athletes.
Abigail McGourty joins the team this year as an assistant. She is a student at Norwood High School. She loves animals and playing soccer in her free time.
